Jack No Master

How much awkward, liberating, and surprising sex can one woman have in a year?

At last her soon-to-be ex-husband is gone, and all she feels is relief. Not sadness; not even disappointment. Years of neglect by Patrick have burned away the last of her empathy for him. Now, finally, she’s free, as is her young son, Charlie. Unshackled from marriage to a deadweight, the two of them have a fresh start — and she plans to make the most of it.

With her usual focused and sensible approach, she outlines the necessary steps to move forward, including how to reclaim the one part of her adulthood she missed the most: sex. She now wants as much good, “no strings attached” sex as she can get. But it’s been almost 20 years since she’s been with another man, let alone felt desirable. The world long ago moved to online dating, and she has no idea where to start.

Turning to her best friends for help, she joins a dating app and finds herself fumbling through a sometimes hilarious, frequently awkward, but always empowering journey of dating from the fresh perspective earned by her 43 years. At first, she long resists the “messy emotions” that dating can bring by being upfront about her rules and expectations in an attempt to keep things all business. But her ruthless pragmatism is no match against the sexy, compelling, and intelligent Jack.

About the author

Allison Manley

Allison has been a graphic designer, a glassblower, a podcaster, a marketer, and a writer, telling stories with all those mediums along the way. Additionally, she’s a competitive figure skater, and has the thousands of dollars in physical therapy bills to prove it. Currently she works in marketing for a top website agency.

“Jack No Master” is Allison’s fiction debut. Seeing a gap in the romance market for 40-something divorcees reclaiming their sexuality, she took her years of writing for work and funneled it into a contemporary romance novel for women redefining and discovering the meaning of being in their prime.

When she’s not working, skating, or hoping her teenagers acknowledge her existence, Allison competes in an adult figure skating league and interviews famous skaters on her podcast at manleywoman.com.
